Onions and tomatoes,
Both have sky rocketed.
Onions are being imported from Pakistan what a laugh they must be having.
The fact is that we are not growing enough for a domestic consumption. Why? Labour is expensive is it really? Then why are the farm hands migrating to town?
We are converting agriculture land into non agriculture ones building buildings covering the land with concrete.
A country like Japan where land is premium they have opted for underground farming, which means building are not allowed to have concretized parking spaces even if they do have one floor free for parks. This format is followed in Bangkok too.
There was one venture that utilized railway tracks for growing vegetables I think at Bombay, well let’s not talk of the merits and demerits of it.
The essence of education is to empower the people with life skills, but we have a education system that is compulsory this system was designed to create a labour force for the british. Agriculture has education has been neglected at all levels.
The educate urbanites are unable to handle agriculture but they understand the power cash agriculture land is being converted and sold. It is so common and so accepted. About 10yrs back the land islanded between Santa Cruz, taleigao panji and Dona Paula was filled with lush green fields now they are fast vanishing there are big non goan players buying building we have people from the gulf, Bombay Delhi and Bangalore buying their second homes retirement insurances. These flats are closed all most all year round we are blocking resources.
Forget the Tata’s ,Ambani’s to hell with the Naryanamurthy’s Ladies and gentlemen lets get brown before going green.

I think the extensive work load listed by me yesterday on Plinky has crumps of help thrown at me.
Amma’s pattimaadu (make a list) seem to rule the roost. I am sharing it will all as a New Year gift.
Grocers list is something we all do. But a list of to do done and ticked at the end of the day gives a sense of achievement. There are certain jobs that can be planned well in advance.
Maintenance check list of the handiwork to be done around the house. With the contacts and numbers is very helpful. I know a friend who puts in draining cleaning with PWD help before rains to prevent clogging. She does it in the beginning of the year I mean schedule it so that she does not over stretch herself or “adjust”
Birthday lists of course all us do.
Packing list for a vacation. A good idea would be how many days, what events, do we have access to washing facility. Gifts to be given etc.etc. and then pack accordingly. Medicines, toiletry everything should be listed. It also helps when repacking for the return journey.
Imagine what bliss it would be having a weekly cleaning list with the name of the family member responsible on it and the person honouring the responsibility without having to be reminded. – Utopia.
Car maintenance checklist. Schedule times when you need to make appointments for an oil change and general car maintenance.
Diwali preparation checklist, gifts check list for diwali all this would make life easy.
A big thank you to all donors, I shall definitely try to do it.

udupi kaimagga-- the handloom form udupi
Udupi kai-magga
Or the udupi handloom once for a flourishing business. Like the ilkal and other handlooms udupi handlooms had an identity of its own.
The weavers network started in 1938. People from far and wide came for it. The advantage of this kind of weaving being the counts are close and with wash the saree gets softer. The udupi handloom has been known for its durability along with the comfort of wear.
Their products cover a range of sarees, towels Lungi’s and bedsheets.
The rapid changing lifestyle of the decade has hit the weavers badly. Their children have opted for education that does not give them the skills for weaving.
in an attempt to revive the weaving skills and technology the govt. of Karnataka has set up two training centres one at Halliholle and one at Kollur. The rehabilitation of the indigenous Koraga tribe has been routed through this. Each trainee gets a stipend of rs.2000/- a month . with the weavers association has now a new challenge ie marketing.
They are wary if celebrity patronage as the pricing automatically shoots up the product then becomes inaccessible to the masses.
The chairman of the weavers association noted that the recent order by Ms.Mamta Banerjee for a training program she had ordered 300 sarees was a big boost to the morale of the weavers.

The Mobile Indian Trash can.
Do we mistake the railways for mobile garbage, or is it that we think we can do away with civil manners.
the marusagar express from Jaipur to Ernakulum arrives at 2.10 on the madgaon platform, the sleepy stations suddenly wakes up, the Bhobe caterers in the station send their brightest malayalee vendors to vend the Malabar parata and curry, the vendor comes up with the paratas in the news paper, and the curry in the kettle, before long all the paratas gone and curry served too, the newspaper has now served its purpose the young vendor shoves the paper into the pole of platform 2, he does not bother to put it into the dustbin which is to his left instead of in front of him. The passengers have eaten the food, paper plates are thrown out into the railway tracks, and around the dustbin, but into it no thank you.
Next they buy some frooti and empty cartons are just dropped, neither does the vendor bother to tell the passenger to put it into the dustbin, nor does the passenger have the courtesy
When you tell them to pick up it up and put into the dustbin the answer is
“We are backward we are not in Singapore.”
We are definitely not in Singapore if we were we dare not litter.
Take 2
The Mangalore passenger arrives then fortunately for us we have booked our tickets so we do not have to rush in. but hey presto! We share the boogie with the garbage (check the picture) the previous passengers have eaten and left their plates behind.
The Bhatt caterers who handle the catering of the tidy boys, came vending the great ware, coffee tea whatever, the tea is poured carefully into the disposable cups so only few drops get dropped on the floor each time. Ask them what does one do with the used cups, they look at you with disdain for asking an obvious question “throw it out of the window” never mind you will hit someone’s face, or litter the fields below.
Yes I know we are not Singapore.
My educated friends have ridiculed me for collecting the garbage in a newspaper bag and then putting it into the trash can at the next station. Wonder if their personal cars are so dirty too.
The TT says litter is not his responsibility but it would help if we complain the train might get dustbins.
this picture is the seat of the reserved compartment of Mangalore-verna passenger.
