Do we mistake the railways for mobile garbage, or is it that we think we can do away with civil manners.
the marusagar express from Jaipur to Ernakulum arrives at 2.10 on the madgaon platform, the sleepy stations suddenly wakes up, the Bhobe caterers in the station send their brightest malayalee vendors to vend the Malabar parata and curry, the vendor comes up with the paratas in the news paper, and the curry in the kettle, before long all the paratas gone and curry served too, the newspaper has now served its purpose the young vendor shoves the paper into the pole of platform 2, he does not bother to put it into the dustbin which is to his left instead of in front of him. The passengers have eaten the food, paper plates are thrown out into the railway tracks, and around the dustbin, but into it no thank you.
Next they buy some frooti and empty cartons are just dropped, neither does the vendor bother to tell the passenger to put it into the dustbin, nor does the passenger have the courtesy
When you tell them to pick up it up and put into the dustbin the answer is
“We are backward we are not in Singapore.”
We are definitely not in Singapore if we were we dare not litter.
Take 2
The Mangalore passenger arrives then fortunately for us we have booked our tickets so we do not have to rush in. but hey presto! We share the boogie with the garbage (check the picture) the previous passengers have eaten and left their plates behind.
The Bhatt caterers who handle the catering of the tidy boys, came vending the great ware, coffee tea whatever, the tea is poured carefully into the disposable cups so only few drops get dropped on the floor each time. Ask them what does one do with the used cups, they look at you with disdain for asking an obvious question “throw it out of the window” never mind you will hit someone’s face, or litter the fields below.
Yes I know we are not Singapore.
My educated friends have ridiculed me for collecting the garbage in a newspaper bag and then putting it into the trash can at the next station. Wonder if their personal cars are so dirty too.
The TT says litter is not his responsibility but it would help if we complain the train might get dustbins.
this picture is the seat of the reserved compartment of Mangalore-verna passenger.
