tomatoes and onions

Onions and tomatoes,

Both have sky rocketed.

Onions are being imported from Pakistan what a laugh they must be having.

The fact is that we are not growing enough for a domestic consumption. Why? Labour is expensive is it really? Then why are the farm hands migrating to town?

We are converting agriculture land into non agriculture ones building buildings covering the land with concrete.

A country like Japan where land is premium they have opted for underground farming, which means building are not allowed to have concretized parking spaces even if they do have one floor free for parks. This format is followed in Bangkok too.

There was one venture that utilized railway tracks for growing vegetables I think at Bombay, well let’s not talk of the merits and demerits of it.

The essence of education is to empower the people with life skills, but we have a education system that is compulsory this system was designed to create a labour force for the british. Agriculture has education has been neglected at all levels.

The educate urbanites are unable to handle agriculture but they understand the power cash agriculture land is being converted and sold. It is so common and so accepted. About 10yrs back the land islanded between Santa Cruz, taleigao panji and Dona Paula was filled with lush green fields now they are fast vanishing there are big non goan players buying building we have people from the gulf, Bombay Delhi and Bangalore buying their second homes retirement insurances. These flats are closed all most all year round we are blocking resources.

Forget the Tata’s ,Ambani’s to hell with the Naryanamurthy’s Ladies and gentlemen lets get brown before going green.
